New Fuel Prices in Indonesia

OilI need to fill my motorcycle fuel tonight, since it runs out of fuel since this morning. Ok, but what’ve I found? Some queue lines of motorcycles and cars. I know that today is the last day before new fuel price will be put into effect by tommorow. Indonesia Government’s already decide to run new regulations for fuel subventions.
Right now, Indonesian people especially college student and several organizations do demonstration to against this new regulation. Unfortunately, most of these demonstrations ended up with disturbance. I strongly disagree with disturbance in demonstrations. I remembered that Effendi Ghazali (Master in Politics Communication – Master Ilmu Komunikasi Politik) said that there’s many ways to express our disagreement to goverment regulation. One of them is social disobediences, and this action ever put into action by Mahatma Gandhi.

Mahatma GandhiIn this case, we could stop using private cars or motorcycles and start using bicycles or public transportations. There’s about 2 million people in Indonesia, and I think there’s about 30% of them are student (college students, high schools, and junior high schools). If we can reduce about 30% fuel usage, I’m sure that government should consider to deflate fuel prices, since it’s usage is demoted. So, poor people will afford to buy fuel again. My question is.. Will Indonesian people do this?
